Development Supervision

What is Development Supervision?

Development supervision is ideal for children who may need to undergo orthodontic treatment later on. Development begins when a baby first begins to get their primary teeth. We monitor the development of baby teeth as well as the permanent teeth that come in once the first set have fallen out. Issues like under bites, over bites and open bites are measured and monitored for proper treatment analysis.

Why does your child need Development Supervision?

Development supervision can help prevent a problem from getting worse if it is in its early stages. For example, open bites are typically caused by thumb sucking and pacifiers and if we’re able to notice a problem, the habit can be kicked to prevent the open bite from getting worse. Space maintainers can be used to prevent crowded and crooked teeth from developing. Our goal is to provide your child with a full, beautiful mouth no matter their age.

What makes your child a good candidate for Development Supervision?

Every child is a good candidate for development supervision. In fact, development of the teeth is monitored at each of their checkup appointments. Notes are made on your child’s chart and will be used at the next appointment to check for changes. If treatment is needed, we will discuss your options at another appointment.

What can you expect with Development Supervision?

Development supervision is as simple as monitoring the growth and development of the teeth. This is done with the help of an exam as well as x-rays. X-rays allow us to see the permanent teeth coming in underneath the primary, or baby, teeth. We will recommend orthodontics if it is needed as your child’s permanent teeth begin to come in. There are many other treatment options that may be suitable to keep your child’s teeth looking straight and uniform. Your child will benefit greatly from routine development supervision performed by Dr. Mina.
